Poll Results

The post you've all been waiting for, well I've been waiting for it. As you can see, the results from you, the people, state which sport requires more athleticism.

Swimming - 77%
Baseball - 22 %

Many of you have probably guessed who is partial to what sport, and I'm sure if I had more male readers, there would have been a few more votes for baseball.

Here are my reasons for siding with swimming:
Look at Michael Phelps, he is the picture of health, strong, muscular, has great endurance. Being a swimmer requires a lot of training. Sure, anyone can become a swimmer, but those who were once heavy, quickly lose weight swimming. It is a sport of constant motion, the person who is the fastest wins. It does require coordination also, fly, breaststroke, flip turns, etc.

Baseball on the other hand isn't the picture of health. Look at Pablo Sandoval, he is fat. He almost always gets out at 1st base because he is slow. But he has great hand eye coordination. And, if you look closely, he has a tin of tobacco in his butt pocket (not to mention all the players who have done performance enhancing drugs - A Rod....). Yep, you can chew chaw while participating in your sport. It is a sport of outwitting the opponent with steeling bases, change ups and curve balls, not of power and endurance.

Kalli and Jo, I see both your points concerning hand eye coordination. But I've done both sports, and I think anyone could learn hand eye coordination. With the right timing, you can hit a ball or you can release a pitch so that it lands in a catchable location. And swimming can be learned also. I'm not saying anyone could be a professional at either sport, but that both sports can be learned by anyone. But one will improve your health, while the other will improve your socialization skills while you are chilling in left field waiting for someone to hit a perfectly timed pitch to you.

I'm still sticking with swimming requires more athleticism. Skills can be learned with enough practice. You can do anything you want to do.

And isn't baseball being removed from the Olympics?

Poll Time

Dear Friends,

Your assistance is needed. Please leave your google readers and come to my actual blog, I need you all to participate in a little poll. Here is the question.

Which sport requires more athleticism?

Swimming or Baseball

I'm going to leave it at that because I'm trying really hard not to skew the results. Be prepared for my follow up post.

Notice that cheerleading isn't included in this poll, that is because cheerleading isn't a sport.

Feel free to leave a comment, snarky or not, I'm interested to hear what you think.

Take the poll. Thanks.

I can't do pictures either, because that would also skew the results of the poll - ie Pablo Sandoval.

Poll Analysis

So you guys want to know the results of the poll? It looks like most people (80%) like hand me downs. I figured as much. And in case you were wondering who was the weasel that voted that trading clothes is gross, it was Bill. He just did it to be controversial - which I suppose that is what happens when you give options like that.

Peace out.

New To Me

Last night, Bill and I met a friend for a most scrumptious dinner. It was a formal dining experience, which is always too bad, because requiring nice clothes seems to illicit a feeling severe awkwardness when you pull out your camera to ooh and aah over your food. Boo.

To the point. I wore a really cute dress suit to dinner that my cousin gave me. I love it. And I love hand-me downs. I can always use something fresh and new to wear whether it is new or used. But then I thought about it in reverse. Why would I want to anyone want my clothes? My clothes are ugly and boring. But one mans "trash" is another mans treasure. My cousin didn't want this suit any more for whatever reason, maybe she decided it was ugly, but I like it.

So my question is, do you like to be a recipient of hand me downs? Go take my poll, you'll like it.

Poll Results etc

I can accept the fact that Red Vines are the preferred licorice. It's unfortunate, but as Kurt Vonnegut said "so it goes".
As for other news, I had an awesome, yet uneventful weekend. It was great because I took my bike (road) out for a spin, and though there were tons of people on the trail, it was a fun ride. I road up to the northside which made me realize how boring the southside is. On the northside, the beaches are way nicer, there was a triathlon (see picture above) going on, a volleyball tournament with around 30 nets set up for play, tons of food stands, soccer games, softball games, a sailing race, crews out on the river, and there was a nice golf course. Lets face it, as much as I like the southside, the northside seems vastly superior. It has it's own problems, but as a whole, it is nice. And during all these observations, I thought "keep your cadence up like Lance [Armstrong]" Yeah, I realized why those guys are pros. I was riding on flat trails and there was no way I could keep my cadence up to 80 (which is what the pros ride at) for any length of time. I suppose if I rode my bike more frequently, it would be more possible. So it goes.
I also saw Harry Potter, it was good, scary but good.
Poor Levi Leipheimer, no more tour.
And so it goes.

Are you ready for the results of the poll? Drum roll please..................................
36 % said "Heck Yes, I just turn on my blue tooth and chat away!"
63% said "No way, I get off the phone when I've got to go..."
I'll be honest, I was surprised how many of you talk on your phones while you are going to the bathroom.
This all started last week when I walked into a restroom and this lady was just chatting away. So awkward. I suppose you could possibly, if desperate, talk to someone at home, but come on......in a public restroom. Boo. Please take your conversation else where. Because of her lengthy conversation I flushed the toilet 7 times. Just kidding, I didn't.
Then later that day, I was walking through the halls, and watched this guy rush to the bathroom with the newspaper in hand. Again, weird, read and talk at home, not in public. But if you ever watch How I Met your Mother, they did a whole episode on this, it is pretty funny.
Anyway, that's all I've got, so if you got anything to say, leave a comment.

Poll Results and Late Good Food Friday

Well the poll is closed and it looks like mayo is the winner. I suppose the results weren't too surprising, but I was surprised when I asked my mom what she voted for, knowing full well that she would say miracle whip. To my chagrin, she said MAYO. My mom is turning out to be a closet lot of things, a closet member of the green party, a closet cat lover, and now a closet mayo lover. (I was kidding on the green party, but everything else is true.) We are a split house hold, Bill loves mayo, I love my miracle whip.
On to the next topic. It is good food Friday/Sunday. I haven't made anything exciting all week until today. But it is never too late to post a good recipe.
This weeks recipe was Couscous with Sweet Potatoes and Yellow Squash.
I thought it was pretty good. Bill thought it was good, but doesn't love couscous as much as I do. But he is a good spouse and eats what ever I make. He admitted it was good, but wasn't "his cup of tea".
So for those of you who would like a Moroccan type recipe and involves yummy couscous, try this. And besides, this give you an excuse to eat sweet potatoes year round.

Couscous with Sweet Potatoes & Yellow Squash:

Ingredients:
16 oz canned tomatoes (w/ juice)
1 medium sweet potato
1 medium carrot
1 small yellow summer squash
1 Tlbs olive oil
1 small onion, coarsely chopped
1 clove garlic, minced
1 cup water
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp turmeric
1/2 tsp ground cumin
1/4 tsp salt
ground red pepper (to taste)
1 cup cooed or rinse and drained canned chick-peas
1 cup couscous

Directions:
Use a fork to break up the tomatoes right in the an and set them aside. Cut the sweet potato into 1" cubes. Peel the carrot and cut it diagonally into 1" lengths. Cut the squash into thick slices. Set vegetables aside.
Place the oil in a large saucepan over medium heat for 30 sec. Stir in the onions and cook them, stirring frequently, until they begin to brown. Stir in the garlic, then the tomatoes (w/ juice), water, cinnamon, turmeric, cumin, salt and pepper.
Add the sweet potatoes and carrots. Raise the heat and bring the vegetables quickly to a boil. Reduce the heat to low, cover the pan and cook the mixture for 15 min.
Add the squash and chick-peas; cook for 15 min, or until sweet potatoes are tender.
While the vegetables are simmering, coo the couscous according to the directions on the package.
Fluff the couscous with a fork and place it in a shallow bowls. Ladle the vegetables and broth over the couscous.
Here is the finished product.
Try it, you'll like it.

New Poll

This is going along with Good Food Friday. I'm just curious as to what you prefer, Mayonnaise or Miracle Whip. See the bar on the right.
