my posting

It has been brought to my attention that my posts suck as of lately. Sorry, I guess this is a good sign, because it means that I like my job and I do work at work. Funny, I know.

The mighty hunter

My brother in law was in town, also know as PB&J (if you read the Sack Lunch Conspiracy)
He was in Chicagoland on business, but made the trek over to visit us, (if you have to take the Dan Ryan, you know it is a long and arduous trek). He took us out for gelato and we had a lovely discussion on elk, deer, turkey, and pheasant hunting. It was a bloody good conversation over ice cream. I asked him where all this hunting came from because we H girls didn't marry hunters (Bill is not a hunter). He said that he has always been a hunter. I told him that we H girls have always been mighty hunters too, we choose to hunt for...........bargains.
Speaking of which, I bought 1 lb of jumbo shrimp that was devained and peeled for $6! Oh man, I am a good hunter.

Sorry no pictures, maybe I'll update with pictures later.

Joseph/Donny

Way way back many centuries ago, not long after the Bible began, I had a great love for Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat.
I was walking to the bus the other day after work when someone said the word azure, and I immediately thought "azure and lemon and russet and gray and purple and white and pink and orange and blue. Which spurned me on to think about all the other Joseph songs I had memorized. I LOVED this musical.
In jr. high, my mom and I went to see it with the one and only, Donny Osmond. It was fantastic. I knew all the songs by heart, I listened to the cd constantly (much to my families chagrin), and I had a secret crush on Don himself (we are on a first name basis, you know his wife calls him Don or Donald when she's angry). Oh the day I heard that there was a chance that Donny wouldn't be preforming due to an illness, I prayed my little heart out that he would be there. You can't see Joseph without the true Joseph. And lucky for me, he was there and I was in love. I'm not so sure my crush was so secret. As we drove home from the performance, I asked my mom all about Don . Where did he live, was he married, did he have kids. I was mildly disappointed to find out that in fact he was happily married and had kids. She said "he's a fine example of a family man, in fact, a remarkable family in anyone's book!" He was so dreamy with his long hair and technicolored coat, all I could think of was "give me his colored coat, his amazing colored coat" they could just throw in into the crowd.
But here I am, many years later, and though I don't care for Don so much anymore, I still like the musical, and since that day of overhearing the word azure, I've had Joseph on my mind. I even knew the colors of his coat:

It was red and yellow and green and brown
And scarlet and black and ochre and peach
And ruby and olive and violet and fawn
And lilac and gold and chocolate and mauve
And cream and crimson and silver and rose
And azure and lemon and russet and grey
And purple and white and pink and orange
and blue

But don't rely on all I said I know,
It's just that I have not been wrong before . Mwahahaha.

Maybe I'll go see this again some day, maybe then I won't have to include random Joseph phrases in to my everyday language or blog posts. I just tell myself,
"Go, go, go, go, go, go, go Kate you know what they say
Hang on now Kate you'll make it some day
Sha la la Kate you're doing fine"
you'll make it back there,
and have a really good time.

Fortune Tellers & Psychics

Does anyone still listen to 101.9 the end? That used to be my favorite radio station until I moved. Oh Chunga and Mister, you guys were so funny. And then you got rid of Casey, strike one. Then you hired Parker, strike two, then you fired Mister, strike three, you guys totally suck now.
I digress.
So on 101.9 they would have "Sid the Psychic" on. I hated her. She was such an idiot. I would be driving somewhere and Sid would come on and make up a bunch of crap. I loved the lame answers she would give. The conversation would go something like this:
Sid: "What is your name"
caller: "my name is Sarah, and I can't keep a boyfriend. I really want to get married Sid, what do you see in my future?"
Sid: "Well Sarah I see that you are in love, but can't find anyone to love you?"
Sarah: "oh Sid, how did you know?"
Sid: "I see that you scare men off with your insane desire to get married......I'm getting the feeling that they think you are......clingy and needy."
Sarah: "Really, you think that?"
Sid: "I think Sarah, that you need to be less clingy and a man will come into your life!"
Sarah: "Oh Sid, WHEN??? Tell me, I want to get married soooooooooooooooo BAD!!!"
Sid: "I see in the future that you are married to a wonderful man......in several years. Yes, yes, I see a wonderful man with brownish hair and ears, and a mouth. Oh yes, I see that he will be a great kisser. Brace yourself Sarah, you will know he is the one by his kiss because he will sweep you off your feet with that first kiss."
Sarah: "oh Sid, you are amazing! Do you see any kids in the future."
Sid: "if you let them, they will come"
Sarah: "Oh Sid, thank you so much, I knew you would change my life!

Bleh, I find myself yelling at the radio during these ridiculous segments. But with the departments upcoming move to the psych ward, I just might become psychic......or psychotic.

Come Decemberish, (after the move) there might be a new segment called "Fortune Telling with Kate". Brace yourself, it could be really awesome.

Not so vintage photo day

I just thought I would post this photo for you all to enjoy. Bill took this picture this summer while we were in Washington visiting his parents. This is the new puppy Emma. Here she is during her first swim in a pond. She didn't swim, she bounced.

When your there.....

I know I've been a huge slacker lately when it comes to blogging. Sorry. But what can I do, I worked a lot this week, and to make matters worse, Bill was out of town, so I was left with my crappy computer, which means, I don't blog or serf the web. But I'm making an exception for this post. (You can thank me later).
But for today's post, I'm going to sing a little song for you all. Feel free to sing along.

"When you're there, I sleep lengthwise, and when you're gone, I sleep diagonal in my bed"

Bill has been out of town a lot lately, so this song has joined my bedtime routine. Boy, is it a good song. I grew up to Phish, and various other bands like The Cure, Pink Floyd, REM, you know, the good stuff. And they all hold a special place in my heart.
Back to the point, I've been sleeping diagonal in my bed, and I like it. But, I like having Bill home more. Who am I kidding, I still sleep diagonal in my bed when Bill is home (it's just not as obvious though).

Chicago Marathon

So it is marathon weekend. And what a lovely weekend to have the Chicago Marathon. I went down to support my dear Chelsea.
Just a picture of Chicago.
The water stations, they looked better prepared this year than they were last year.
The elite women. The winner of the Boston Marathon 2007 won this years Chicago Marathon - Lidiya Grigoryeva and the girl that took second also took second at Boston 2008 - Alvetina Biktimirova. I had to include a close up because the women are hard core.
The elite men.
This guy kicked his way through the marathon. He was actually pretty fast.
And of course, your Elvis impersonators, there were a couple this year even though it was pretty hot outside.
I parked myself at the 6k and 18k mark and missed Chelsea on the 6k. It's hard to find people with 45,000 runners. But behold, I did find her on the 18k, unfortunately, I had my big lens on and she ran right next to me and the camera wouldn't take a picture that close. But I screamed and cheered her on. So sorry no picture of the champion Chelsea.

Great job Chels on finishing another marathon!

My Job

I work at a hospital, did I mention that. I don't deal with patients at all. But occasionally I have to run errands around the hospital and let me tell you, hospitals are scary places. I'll go down to the basement, and there will be broken hospital beds in the hall. It feels like death and I get the willies.
My department will be moving to another floor that is being remodeled. I was told we are being moved to.........the old PSYCH WARD.
A co-worker and I went upstairs to check out the new space and find our offices. In one of the rooms/offices we came across none other than a hospital bed with shackles.

Need I say more!
Does this not give you the hebee jeebees? I thought hospital beds were bad, but beds with shackles........it creeps me out. Apparently there is no longer a psych ward. I still feel weird about our new location.

My Husband

The other day, Bill asked me to take the flag football registration in and pay for the team. He was out of town. So I took it into the intermural office and handed the paperwork and money to the guy in charge, we'll call him Chuck, because I can't remember his name. So Chuck took the paperwork and read through the form to make sure everything was filled out. He read aloud the team name:

Mitt Romney's Revenge

I felt embarrassed. In fact, Chuck chuckled when he read the team.
Why does my husband chose the most absurd team names? Here are some of the other team names he has used or though up for various things: Provo Polygamist, Big Love, Dean Levmore's Favorite Minority, Team Sprite, The Osmond Brothers, The Non-Alcoholic Ernest Hemingway Society.

I have no comment.

My Vote Goes To.....

I'm tired of the of the news right now. I'm tired of hearing about the debates and the stupid commercials about change or lack thereof, and everything else that is going on right now. I'm over it.
Forget it McCain, I don't like you.
Same goes to you Obama, even though I have this awesome picture (only awesome if you become president), I still don't like you. Sorry.
Instead, I've decided that I'm going to vote for Josiah Bartlett for President 08. Good luck Jed, just make sure you bring Josh, Sam, Leo, Donna, CJ, Charlie, and Toby.

Jed Bartlett '08
